Willow Grove UMC will host a special event on Sunday, January 23 at 3 PM to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is observed annually Jan. 27.

Lesser known than Martin Luther King Jr. Day, this solemn day also signifies “justice-seeking and truth-telling intentions,” writes the Rev. Lorelei Toombs, Willow Grove’s pastor. It does so by commemorating the history, art and faith of the Terezin Concentration Camp, located near Prague, Czech Republic. Many Jewish artists, poets and musicians were interned at Terazin; and much of their writings and art have survived—portraying not only the horror of their time there but also the hope, perseverance and courage of their people.Rick Sivers, a retired UM minister now living in Abington, will share the true history of Terezin and insights from his friendship with a survivor. Sivers visited Terezin and other Holocaust sites in Europe, which had a profound impact on him. If you wish to attend this event or have questions contact Toombs at revtoombs@gmail.com or 267-326-3682, or contact Sivers at richard.sivers@gmail.com.
