Bishop John Schol seeks persons—clergy, lay adults and youth—to nominate for membership and leadership on the World Methodist Council, for the remainder of its current term, 2022-2024, and also for 2024 to 2030.
The Eastern PA and Greater New Jersey conferences each are entitled to two representatives on the council. Nominations should be sent by March 1, 2023, to the EPA&GNJ Directors of Connectional Ministries, the Rev. Dawn Taylor-Storm (EPA) or Eric Drew (GNJ).
Nominations should specify the nominee’s name, contact information, a rationale for their nomination and a plan of financial support for their participation in the WMC. Nominees should have a global understanding of the Methodist-Wesleyan movement and be willing and eager to contribute and advance the purpose and visions of the WMC. Council members serve at their own expense, often with support from their church.
The worldwide council, headquartered in Waynesville, N.C., comprises 500 representatives nominated by their respective Methodist denominations located in more than 130 countries. Those representatives will meet at the WMC’s next conference August 13-18, 2024, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The council meets every five years to plan its programs, elect leadership, organize its work, and review progress made in nine key areas: Ecumenical Relations, Education, Evangelism, Family Life, Interreligious Relations, Social and International Affairs, Theological Education, Worship & Liturgy, and Youth & Young Adults.
