Next Sunday, our Philadelphia Eagles will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs on the football field—a rematch of sorts, after a disappointing loss in 2023. We, the United Methodists in EPA & GNJ, must face a rematch of our own. In 2023 EPA & GNJ took on the Missouri and Great Plains conference in a competition to see who can collect and donate the most food to their local food pantry. Missouri and Great Plains won the contest, together collecting more than 105,367, while EPA & GNJ’s donations tipped the scale at 77,044. Just as our beloved Eagles get a second chance, so do we.
Soaring together to overcome food insecurity
Each congregation is invited to join in this friendly competition and collect food in a way that makes sense for your context. If you regularly collect food for the “Souper Bowl of Caring” weigh the amount of goods you collect and donate it to the food pantry you regularly support. The only additional step would be to record your donation using the QR code.
You can also collect cash donations, like the UMC of New Brunswick did. In 2023, the church both collected 200 canned goods, and also raised $1,234 to purchase more food for its nightly dinner ministry. Invite your community to join the campaign, reach out to your local grocery store, Target, or Costco to see if they would be willing to make a donation to support this anti-hunger drive.
Together we can make a difference and combat food insecurity in EPA & GNJ.
