Sculpture: “Boy: Portrait of a Word” with artist Kate Brockman

The New Hope community gathered on May 24 for a meaningful public art installation at the historic New Hope Cemetery, an Eastern Pennsylvania United Methodist Church Conference property, where New Hope Arts unveiled a new sculpture created by renowned artist Kate Brockman.

The sculpture, titled “Boy: Portrait of a Word,” reflects themes of reflection, identity, and the inner journey of the human spirit. The installation marks another significant contribution to the growing public art presence throughout the New Hope area.

According to Christine Ramirez, Executive Director of New Hope Arts, this sculpture represents the 50th public art piece installed through the New Hope Arts Public Arts Program — a remarkable milestone celebrating the community’s ongoing commitment to creativity, culture, and artistic expression.

As President of the Trustee Board of the Eastern Pennsylvania United Methodist Conference, Rev. VK Macwana expressed gratitude and humility in being part of such an inspiring community project.

“At a time when many are forgetting the past and trying to change the narrative, this statue speaks boldly,” said Rev. Macwana. “It reminds us to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously while striving for peace and justice for all.”

The installation at New Hope Cemetery adds both cultural and spiritual significance to the area, transforming public spaces into places of contemplation and inspiration for residents and visitors alike.

The New Hope Arts Public Arts Program continues to play a vital role in enriching the region through public art initiatives that celebrate creativity while strengthening community connections.
