Anybody up for a little home improvement mission project at a church? El Mesias UMC, at 3200 N Front St, in Philadelphia’s Kensington community, needs volunteer help to lay adhesive floor tiles in its child development center on any Saturday morning in August or September. “Not heavy work, but some bending and hauling,” says the Rev. Russell Atkinson, Conference Coordinator of Volunteers in Mission. “And any help would be a blessing.”

The city requires that the floors in classrooms and common areas used by the BrightFutures Preschool program be covered to address an unsafe flooring concern. The parents of many of the enrolled children at the preschool are essential workers. Having care for the children of these workers is essential too. Should the city be forced to close the preschool the unfortunate effects could ripple throughout Philadelphia.

This is an urgent need and self-adhesive tiles being used require few tools. Please let contact Atkinson at 610-675-7187 or ratkinson@epaumc.org if you can participate. He’s hoping to attract and work with some volunteers there this Saturday morning, Aug. 28.
