This training is designed to increase the intercultural competency of attendees and help them deepen their understanding of relationship dynamics, especially in diverse cultural communities. Implicit bias and self-awareness will be briefly explored.  Participants will also examine the biblical and theological foundations of serving in cross-racial/cross-cultural ministry (CR/CC). Some tools and common language will be offered to help engage racially and ethnically diverse communities. Technical assistance will also be offered for sponsoring future training.

Co-Presenters: Rev. Dr. Anita A. Powell, a retired Elder, served the Eastern PA Conference as a pastor, district superintendent and Director of Connectional Ministries. She has received and offered training in interpersonal/interracial/intercultural dynamics and interactions, particularly as they relate to CR/CC ministry.   Rev. Dr. Mel Leaman, retired, has been a church director of education and youth ministries, a student pastor and the  Pastor of West Grove UMC.  He spent 15 years as Associate Professor of Religion at local Lincoln University, the oldest historically black college in the U.S, and became determined to confront racism.  Dennis Fisher is a retired mental health professional, who was Director of the Behavioral Health Training & Education Network, in Philadelphiahas.  Dennis is CR/CC trainer and training coordinator and has an Advanced Certificate in Cultural Competency for Human Service Workers from Temple University.  He is also music director and worship leader at Somerton UMC in Philadelphia.
