Cedarville UMC in Pottstown collected non-perishable food items for two consecutive Sundays to turn the NFL’s Super Bowl into a fun, competitive, charitable endeavor to support its affiliated community outreach center, Mission First. The Souper Bowl of Caring is a popular national campaign waged annually by churches and groups to support food banks that serve their hungry neighbors.

The church arranged a faux end zone display to receive donations that focused on food items most needed by unhoused neighbors. Each item members placed under the goal posts represented a vote for their preferred teams, either the Los Angeles Rams or the Cincinnati Bengals.

“We reported our half-time score after services on Feb 6,” recalled Diana Wrisley, “and then the final score before the real Super Bowl kick-off. Mission First was the true winner! Everyone enjoyed this fun event, and we will do it again next year.”
