Rally to feature dynamic music, messages and meeting of young minds

By the Rev. David Piltz
Coordinator of Eastern PA Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM)

Due the COVID-19 pandemic the Eastern PA Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM) has decided to reset its annual, planned Youth Rally as a two-day, online event, using Zoom videoconferencing. The dates and times, chosen by the CCYM youth, are Friday, August 21, from 8 to 9:30 PM and Saturday, August 22, from 3 to 4:30 PM.

With the theme “Perfect Vision 2020,” we will have dynamic speakers, uplifting music and small group discussions on topics ranging from self-esteem and body image, to relationships and connecting with God, to prayer and strengthening our faith.

Our CCYM youth are excited to use technology as we engage other youth in discussing, experiencing and learning about our faith. We will enjoy soul-moving music by great Christian artists, and we’ll hear dynamic speakers who will challenge and help guide us in our various faith journeys.

The youth of CCYM have been disappointed by the many losses and sacrifices caused by the pandemic. We want to offer an inspiring experience that reminds everyone that our loving, steadfast God is still in the midst of our struggles.

We also need to engage in timely learning about multicultural diversity and the effects of systemic racism. The youth have decided that as many experience injustice due to the color of their skin, it is important to offer youth an experience that focuses on how God is walking with everyone during this time of confronting injustice.

This rally is intended for youth in 6th–12th grades, but younger youth may participate with their parents and guardians. Adult leaders of youth are encouraged to attend. And Safe Sanctuaries guidelines will be maintained during the event.
