The Eastern PA Conference United Women in Faith has booked David Garlock, a nationally known speaker for our Annual Celebration on October 18. David’s background: As young men, David and his brother killed their abuser. They were convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison. While incarcerated, David experienced conversion to the Christian faith and pursued educational goals. He also met with Bryan Stevenson, author of the book Just Mercy and appeared in the movie by the same title. Once on parole, he enrolled in and graduated from Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. He recently served as director of a prison reentry program in Lancaster County and is currently doing graduate research with Yale and Columbia related to incarceration. He lives with his family in Coatesville PA. David says, “Jesus still heals. He still redeems. And He still calls the most unlikely people into Kingdom work.”
Youth who end up in prison have been a focus of concern for United Women in Faith over the past several years. David Garlock’s presentation should help us gain a deeper understanding of this issue. On October 18 at Palmyra First United Methodist Church in Palmyra, PA, David will share his experience, his faith and his hopes for the future for those behind bars. The speaker will begin at 10:15 am. Please contact Lillian Mannon at lillianmannon@gmail.com to register. The deadline to register is October 10.
