Sanctuary UMC of North Wales, PA is excited to announce the launch of our newest compassion ministry: Linnett’s Lending Closet. Inspired by our former Pastor Lorraine Foster’s mother, this emergency clothing ministry is designed to get apparel into the hands of those who need it most during times of crisis.

By partnering with vital local organizations—including Access Services, Laurel House, and our local police and fire departments—Linnett’s Lending Closet will provide gently used clothing, footwear, and outerwear for infants, toddlers, children, women, and men. Thanks to generous community support, the ministry will also supply brand-new undergarments to those in transition or distress.

An Unmistakable Sign

The inspiration for the closet came from a clear, recurring need in our neighborhood. Serving a dual role as Church Administrator and leader of the Rays of Hope mission small group, Joanna Kohlbus began noticing a pattern.

“It started with a few phone calls and drop-in visits,” Joanna recalls. “Some were from community members looking to donate beautiful, practically new clothing. Others were from local service providers asking if we had clothing available for families in need.”

What could have been dismissed as coincidence soon became an unmistakable sign. After receiving upwards of ten matching requests, it became clear that the Holy Spirit was prompting something bigger. Recognizing that clothing the vulnerable is both a biblical calling and a pressing local necessity, Rays of Hope presented a formal proposal to the Pastor and Leadership Council. The response was an overwhelming, enthusiastic “yes.”

Turning Vision into Reality

Now, the real groundwork begins. Sanctuary UMC members are currently hard at work constructing storage racks to house the clothing bins. Volunteers are screening, sorting, and logging donations into a database to ensure distribution is seamless and efficient when an emergency arises.

How You Can Help

To fully stock our shelves, Linnett’s Lending Closet is hosting a Clothing Donation Drive on Saturday, June 27th. John the Baptist challenged the crowds by saying, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none,” (Luke 3:11). We ask that you look through your closets and share your abundance with those facing crisis.

We are seeking donations of gently used clothing for all ages, as well as brand-new undergarments. On Saturday, June 27th donations can be dropped off at Sanctuary UMC, 1346 East Prospect Ave, in North Wales between 9am and 2pm. If you have any questions about the donation drive, please contact the church office at 215-699-9331.

As Jesus reminds us in Matthew 25, “I needed clothes and you clothed me… whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Come be a part of this ministry, live out Christ’s command, and help us wrap our neighbors in care when they need it most!
