MARSHALLTON — On Feb. 1, Troop 19 was formally launched as the first all-girl troop under Scouts Boy Scouts of America in Chester County.

Troop 19 is the sister troop to Troop 52 of Marshallton which recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. The new unit enjoys the support of Troop 52, the Marshallton United Methodist Church, and the Chester County Council. Troop leaders said the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote, so it signifies a movement forward for female inclusion.

The troop received its charter from the Chester County Council, received a letter of congratulations from Bishop Peggy Johnson of the Eastern PA Conference of the United Methodist Church, promoted 16 girls to the rank of Scout and saw three girls cross over from cub scouts.
