Six new Eastern PA Certified Lay Ministers (CLMs) “graduated” in a Service of Recognition June 1, at Ranck’s United Methodist Church in New Holland. In its 16^th year, the conference program now has 80 active CLMs, and 17 of them are assigned to churches as lay pastors.

“The Holy Spirit met this class at every turn, the six students determined to defy all obstacles, completed the program online using Zoom,” reported Judy Ehninger CLM coordinator, “This class had never met in person, until the session held at Historic St. George’s UMC, yet they forged relationships and bonds that are amazing. They truly represent the diversity of our Annual Conference. Beditza Cadillo is the first Lay Missioner, from the Latino Plan, to complete the Certified Lay Minister Program. We hope others will follow her!”

In a world where few people really listen to God’s voice, West District Superintendent, Rev. Jennifer Freymoyer credited them for hearing, listening and responding to the call of God, the same way Ananias did when God called him to find Saul. (Acts 9:10-18). Her message,” Here I am, Lord. But are you sure?”, encouraged the new CLMs, and all in attendance, to obey the voice of God, trusting His Holy Spirit for guidance.

Judy Ehninger, CLM Coordinator, thanked the CLM course instructors: the Revs. Anita Powell; Lloyd Speer; Michael Roberts; and Mark Salvacion. She announced that the current 2026 class has six students. “We are excited to see where and how the Spirit leads them!

The six “graduates” received certificates and blessings from Cabinet members, Rev. Dr. Andrew L. Foster, III, East District, Rev. Dr. Hun Ju Lee, North District, and Rev. Jennifer Freymoyer, West District.
