As we have observed Black History Month, we give thanks for the profound faith, resilience, leadership, and witness of Black communities— within our church and throughout our nation’s history. Black history is not a side note to the story of the Christian Church or our country; it is central to it.

We celebrate the saints, organizers, pastors, freedom fighters, artists, scholars, and everyday disciples whose courage has shaped movements for justice, equity, and beloved community. Their witness reminds us that faith is not passive— it is embodied in action, rooted in hope, and sustained by the Spirit.

In this season, we recommit ourselves not only to remembrance, but to responsibility. To tell the truth about our history. To dismantle racism in all its forms. To build congregations and communities where every person’s dignity is affirmed and protected.

Especially in times when truth is contested and equity is challenged, we choose to celebrate Black history as living history— still unfolding, still shaping us, still calling us forward.

May we honor this legacy not only with words, but with faithful action.
