Bensalem United Methodist Church is seeking one or two part-time pianist volunteers or interns for its Sunday morning traditional service. This opportunity offers a talented pianist valuable hands-on experience, allowing you to build collaboration skills, receive feedback, and develop your musical skills in a supportive environment. This is a learning-focused position for an aspiring pianist to develop musical skills and build confidence essential for a future musical career.

Candidates shall be high school or college students or recent graduates who are interested in providing quality worship music. The student shall be prompt, dependable, and receptive to feedback.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide piano music for the weekly 8:30AM traditional Sunday services of the church consistent with the provisions of this description. Responsibilities include playing preludes, hymns (accompanying congregational singing or vocalists), offertories and postludes, in collaboration with the Pastor to enhance worship.
2. Provide music for special services, including Lenten, Easter, Advent, Christmas and other services, as may be planned by the Pastor and Worship Committee, if available.
3. Practice and prepare music in advance, selecting appropriate preludes, offertories, and postludes. Willing to rehearse sufficiently to provide quality music.
4. This part-time position (1.5 hours for weekly Sunday worship and 1 – 3 hours (variable) for weekly preparation) requires proficiency in piano, sight-reading, and playing hymns contained in the UMC Hymnal.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
1. The above duties and responsibilities shall be performed under the supervision of the Pastor and the pianist’s designated staff liaison
2. The pianist shall notify the Pastor and his/her designated staff liaison in a timely manner if he/she will be unavailable on Sunday morning.
3. Questions or problems related to the position shall be discussed with the Pastor or the designated staff liaison.
4. The pianist will participate in a periodic review with the Pastor, and/or the designated staff liaison.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Candidate shall provide two references.
2. Experience accompanying congregational singing or vocalists preferred, but not required.
3. Familiarity with the United Methodist Hymnal is helpful, but is not required.
4. The pianist shall begin upon recommendation by the Pastor and approval of the SAS Leadership Board.
5. Time off shall to be scheduled in consultation with the Pastor and/or designated staff liaison giving as much notice as possible.
6. If the pianist or Bensalem United Methodist Church wishes to end the relationship, fourteen (14) day written notice shall be given to the other party.
