“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”Romans 10:15b

Together, as siblings in Christ, we have made an amazing commitment—to build a world where every pastor in Tanzania receives a living wage. When you give, you make it possible for pastors like Rev. Amuri Mamba Nde to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to people who are longing for a whisper of good news.

Rev. Mamba Nde lives and serves in the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp located in the Kigoma Region, Kasulu District, Tanzania, of the North-Katanga Episcopal Region. The Nyarugusu Refugee Camp is one of the largest refugee camps in the world, it is home to more than 150,000 people, including refugees who fled to escape civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and more recently, riots and civil unrest in Burundi.

Rev. Mamba Nde spends his day bringing hope to people whose lives have been upended by trauma and war. He mentors youth, encouraging them to make responsible choices. He makes daily pastoral visits, including encouraging widows to cling to faith in Christ. He understands his work and calling as providing, “Spiritual support for people who are victims of wars and have lost hope of living.”

Rev. Mamba Nde faces significant challenges as he lives in to that calling. Walking is his sole means of transportation in a camp that covers 3,000 acres of land.  Rev. Mamba Nde preaches the good news and makes new disciples against the backdrop of extreme poverty. In his own words, there’s “not enough food, shelter, unemployment, clothes, blankets.”

Nevertheless, God has been faithful. Signs of new life, new hope, and new beginnings are springing up across the camp thanks to Rev. Mamba Nde’s efforts. He asks you to help him continue the work, “as a pastor, I feel the obligation to ask men and women of good will to support with aid to save the lives of many who are in distress. The Lord will help you in the name of Jesus.”

A gift of $1,200 would provide a living wage that would support Rev. Mamba Nde and his family. Any gift moves us closer to the goal of making sure that every United Methodist pastor in Tanzania receives a living wage. Today, let us choose to support with aid to save the lives of many who are in distress.
