Join our conference’s Committee on Native American Ministry (CoNAM) for a breakfast gathering on Wednesday, May 20, from 7 to 8 AM, to honor the 10th anniversary of our historic 2016 Eastern PA Annual Conference’s Act of Repentance toward Healing Relationships with Indigenous Peoples. Reckoning with Indigenous peoples’ difficult history in our region is key to our repentance and healing. That history includes the first off-reservation, federally funded Indian Industrial Boarding School, located in Carlisle, PA, (1879 to 1918), where American hero Jim Thorpe began his iconic sports career but where many Native children were taken from their families, oppressed and stripped of their languages and their heritages.

We will highlight our ongoing relationship with the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle and our annual honoring of Jim Thorpe and the children who lived and died there. (By the way, Jim Thorpe’s tomb and monument are located in Jim Thorpe, PA, in our conference’s North District.)  We’ll also share information about other CoNAM concerns, activities and services offered to EPA churches, including our popular, historical Loss of Turtle Island presentations and assistance with church Land Acknowledgements and Native American Ministry Sunday observances.

Please note: This event is free, but you must register to attend when you register for Annual Conference.
