Canadensis United Methodist is the Northernmost church in the Eastern PA Conference, in Barrett Township, Monroe County. Pre-pandemic attendance was 30. Canadensis is currently a quarter-time appointment. While the church is small, the people there are very loyal and dedicated to the church, and are a caring community of faith. They recently hired a part-time Children’s Coordinator to help rebuild the Children’s Ministry.

Kulpmont UMC is located in Northumberland County, in the middle of the Coal Region.  The church building is one block north of the main street in town.  The congregation is mostly older but there are a few younger people.  They actively participate in the surrounding community by providing school supplies to the local elementary school, offering a Halloween Outreach program, collecting non-perishable food for Harvest Home, and taking generous food baskets to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  They participate in the Mount Carmel Area Ministerium activities, which allows them further involvement in nearby communities.  The congregation desires to grow is open to change and committed to serving the Lord.

Lattimer United Methodist is a charming, small-town, multi-generational church. While small in size, the congregation is very big in warmth and welcoming.  The people at Lattimer tend to favor the traditional in worship and consider themselves fortunate to have an inspirational music ministry provided by a professional musician. Twenty-five people regularly attend weekly worship. The church has an active prayer chain, participates in the Listening Post ministry at Keystone Job Corps, and hosts the annual Lattimer Massacre Service.  The church contributes to a local food bank and children’s closet. The prayer garden and church are beautifully maintained, inside and out.

Salem UMC is located in a small town about 15 miles north of Reading. Most of the members are retired but there is a strong group of younger families, too.  The church has a new computer and camera setup to Livestream worship and now has many people joining and supporting the congregation from outside the local area.  There are several small groups, including two via Zoom.  The congregation is a big supporter of camps for our children, youth, and adults.   There is a prayer shawl ministry and members support many different missions, including an annual mission trip. Every year the congregation offers several free meals to the community, including a complete Thanksgiving dinner.  The local community is very important to Salem UMC – including participating in the town Halloween event and joining with other local churches for Lenten and other special services.

St. John’s upholds traditional biblical values and recognizes the importance of reaching the world with the Gospel.  St. John’s values its Evangelical roots.  It connects with the community by holding annual Vacation Bible School, summer playground programs, supporting local food pantries, and offering a Handy Men ministry.

Swarthmore Church is a small to medium size reconciling congregation with over 125+ years of committed work in the college/suburban community outside Philadelphia.  They are committed to the work of building the beloved community through Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence, Justice for Our Neighbors Immigration Clinic site, Chester City & Eastside Ministries in Chester, and they are a longtime supporter of the Chester Children’s Chorus.   They have recently developed a partnership with Park Avenue Community Center which provides classes, for fellowship, health, and wellness for all ages. Located on the east side of Route 1 just before Route 52, Hamorton is a wooden frame building erected in 1874. The sanctuary seats 100 people. The building includes a modern commercial kitchen and a fellowship room, a small Sunday school room, and an office on the second floor. The congregation is currently white seniors and numbers in the 30s; prior to Covid attendance was in the 50s. We have one traditional service Sunday morning that is also streamed live on our YouTube channel. Church actively supports local charities–Kennett Food Cupboard, Young Moms, Family Promise, and Spanish Health Ministry. Pork and sauerkraut dinner each New Year’s Day attract local residents.

Bridesburg UMC is located in a residential street of the Bridesburg neighborhood in the lower northeast area of Philadelphia County. Founded in 1769, Historic St. George’s UMC (HSG) is the oldest Methodist church in continuous service in America.  HSG is the site of many Methodist “firsts” and has an engaging church presence today.  HSG hosts a “Time Traveler” program that teaches confirmation students about its role in the evolution of American Methodism, including racial tensions in the early Methodist church and the founding of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Neshamony Methodist Church serves a community located along the Neshamony Creek just a few miles north of the Neshamony Mall. The church was originally built in the Horse and Buggy Era and one can see old photographs of the horses tied up in the stable during church services. The church proudly cares for its sanctuary as it is adorned with the most beautiful stained-glass windows on all four sides. The church serves a small community of the faithful, some of whom remember attending Sunday school there six decades ago. The church supports a part-time daycare for neighborhood children. Salem Church is a tight-knit family-based church in a relatively rural part of Upper Bucks County. The congregation is entirely Caucasian, though welcome to all. A single traditional worship service (with organ or piano) is held on Sunday morning in-person and by Facebook Live, and often includes contemporary music. Both voice and handbell choirs participate on special holy days and seasons. Multiple generations worship together, and Children meet for Sunday School during the sermon with dedicated teachers. Several church members oversee the Albright Memorial Chapel and Cemetery.
