In Person Laity Academy Classes to be Held at 2 Locations on April 26 !
The EPAUMC Laity Academy provides learning opportunities for members of local churches who are seeking additional avenues for personal spiritual growth or are called as laity to leading, caring and speaking ministries. While the main event for 2025 will remain the 2-day August Academy at Eastern University, EPA is again offering an opportunity for laity to participate in a one-day in person class at a location other than Eastern University. This year there will be two different classes offered, at locations on opposite sides of the conference.
Courses and Instructors:
There will be a class in “Servant Leadership,” taught by Joseph Skarbowsky at St. Paul’s UMC in Pine Grove and a class in “Prayer for our Times,” taught by Rev. Monica Guepet at Stroudsburg UMC. Both classes are open to any member of the laity with a desire to explore these ministry areas or for their own spiritual growth. The Servant Leadership class is especially recommended for those who are exploring a call to Christ Servant Ministry or the clergy who are assigned to lead a congregation.
Cost and Other Course Details:
The $30 fee covers the cost of the class and all instructional materials, as well as a light breakfast, lunch, and coffee, tea and water throughout the day.
There will be 8 hours of in person instruction on April 26, with two hours of pre-and or post class work to complete the 10-hour requirement for CSM and CLM credit. Partial credit will not be awarded.
The churches will be open at 7:30 am for check-in and continental breakfast. Class will be held from 8 am until noon, with a break for lunch, and then from 1 to 5 pm. Additional breaks will be held throughout the day. There will be no onsite registration for either class.
All pre- and post-class work assignments will be sent by email to participants as soon as their paid registrations are received by Conference. Additionally, the instructors will also email the participants with additional information for the class and contact information for the instructor.

Location of Class Sites:
- Paul’s UMC is located at 19 East Pottsville Street, Pine Grove, PA 17963. Pine Grove is an hour and 15 minutes north of Lancaster along the I 81 corridor.
- Stroudsburg UMC is located at 547 Main Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Stroudsburg is 90 minutes north of Allentown via I 78 and 33.
