Bishop Johnson, other dynamic speakers announced

“The Power of Bold” United Methodist Women’s Assembly announces a lineup of “Bold and Courageous” women leaders. The international, quadrennial 2018 assembly will take place May 18–20 in Columbus, Ohio.

Bishop Peggy Johnson encourages the women of the Eastern PA Conference to attend.  Attendees at this important gathering for women will be inspired by deeply spiritual shared experiences and women speakers who are justice leaders like:

  • Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow;
  • Marian Wright Edelman, Director of The Children’s Defense Fund; and
  • Katharine Hayhoe, NatGeo (National Geographic) TV climate scientist and evangelical Christian.

You will learn how to mobilize at a public rally, at workshops and town hall meetings. You’ll hear presentations by Nobel Peace Prize awardee Leymah Gbowee of Liberia and by a “Young Women Who Mobilize” panel, including Women’s Rights and Racial Justice advocates Tamika Mallory, the Rev. Hannah Bonner and Linda Sarsour.

You will leave with action plans for your local churches and communities.  United Methodist Women will also celebrate their missional focus on women, children and youth for 150 years at this event.

When women UNITE, bold and courageous actions happen!  Bishop Peggy Johnson will join 10 other female UM bishops, including Joaquina Filipe Nhanala from Mozambique to serve Communion at the Assembly.

In this time, women must stay united to hold onto all they have fought for all these years.  They must keep the push for women’s and children’s rights moving forward.  This Assembly is a must-attend event for women leaders to stay connected.

Note: Continuing Education Credits are available for professional women seeking company support to attend.
