Nov 21, 2016

Bishop Peggy Johnson led annual Thanksgiving devotions for the Eastern PA Conference Staff and Cabinet on Monday, Nov. 21, at the Conference Office. She began with a PowerPoint devotional on praising God that offered richly illustrative visuals along with an inspiring call to worship and exaltation.

We share her PowerPoint devotional presentation with you here:

The gathered staff then sang the hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth,” heard Psalm 148 and a brief meditation, and then celebrated the Eucharist together.

In her meditation Bishop Johnson spoke of our responsibility to care for nature and all that it entails. She shared wisdom from Burst: Green Church by Tim Gossett, a youth group resource that shows Christian teens how caring for the earth is a way to honor God and show love for our neighbors. It takes the usual “three Rs” of conservation– reduce, reuse, and recycle–and adds three more: reclaim, repent, and rejoice.
