We received word of the death of Mrs. Dorothy Lorraine Herr Sangrey, 97, of Brethren Village, Lancaster. The surviving spouse of the late Rev. Abram W. Sangrey (Elder), she passed on Dec. 11.
A naturally gifted pianist and trained piano teacher, she played for churches and taught the instrument to as many as 50 students a week from 1935 to 1939. She married her husband in 1939 and became his partner in serving in numerous appointments until his retirement in 1980.
Dorothy and Abram Sangrey were recognized by the Boehm’s Chapel Society in 1998 for their efforts to restore Boehm’s Chapel, near Willow Street. They also received the Lancaster New Era Red Rose Award for that service.
Mrs. Sangrey was predeceased by her husband in 2004. Surviving are five children: Dwight Abram, married to Karla Ann Sangrey, of Portland, OR, Dawn Eda, married to Paul Fargis, of Bedford Hills, NY; Dean H., married to Dee Sangrey, of Garden Valley, ID; Donald G., fiance of Sondra Younker, of Sonora, CA, and Elletta, married to John D. Callahan, of Skaneateles, NY; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
