Let peace begin with me: United Methodist and Muslim relations

In the wake of the January 2015 attacks by terrorists in Paris and a massacre by Boko Haram in Nigeria, many are wondering what the relationship between Christians and Muslims is supposed to look like. A few years ago a United Methodist church in Alexandria, Va., drew a storm of public attention when it allowed a nearby Muslim congregation to use its fellowship hall for Friday worship when the neighboring mosque was being displaced during renovations.The two congregations had chances to get acquainted and learn much from each other. Such redemptive encounters can help us fulfill teachings of the Bible and John Wesley to be people of peace and reconciliation.
