The 2016 Midwinter Retreat for all clergy (elders, deacons and local pastors) and their spouses is set for Jan. 12-14, 2016, at the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton, 2400 Willow Street Pike, Lancaster, PA.

midwinter retreat venueChaplain and Brigadier General Charles R. “Ray” Bailey (retired) will be our guest speaker. Sharing from his many experiences in military and ministry arenas, he will discuss reaching outside our walls to share the Good News.

Chaplain Bailey, a UM elder, served churches in Texas before becoming a U.S. Army chaplain in 1982, serving in that important role for 34 years. In 2011 he became the Army’s 24th Deputy Chief of Chaplains. He has a powerful, personal testimony of the faith and courage of our military heroes. And he will offer profound, helpful insights from his “Ten Commandments of Good Leadership.”

“Most of my ministry has been conducted outside walls–out under a tree, in a foxhole, on the back of a vehicle, in recreation rooms—wherever soldiers gather,” said Bailey in reflecting on his topic. “I’ve had train and work with chaplains from all faiths, developing teams to conduct ministry and religious support to a vast majority of persons who might never attend a chapel.”

Come experience inspiring worship and celebrate the Eucharist together, enjoy the bonds of clergy fellowship, learn, laugh and have fun with karaoke, and share savory meals together, all in the classic comfort of a great hotel.
