The Rev. Greg Ellis will begin serving as the new UM Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) Coordinator for the Eastern PA Conference July 1. He succeeds Ben Botti, who has served faithfully in that role for 12 years.
Ellis was commissioned a Deacon in May 2014 and is on track to be ordained in 2016. In addition to the UMVIM Coordinator role, he has served as the conference Disaster Response Coordinator since last November, succeeding Debra DePrinzio.
“We’re excited that “Deacon Greg” is taking on these dual volunteer leadership roles because he envisions developing greater synergy between Volunteers in Mission and Disaster Response, especially in pre- and post-disaster work,” said the Rev. Christopher Kurien, Director of Connectional Ministries. “But he will encourage each ministry to continue serving more people in unique and creative ways.”
Prior to these conference positions, Ellis served as the Northeast District’s Disaster Response Coordinator. He has also represented the conference and the UMC on several committees and task forces, interacting with other faith groups, government agencies and businesses to help coordinate disaster relief and shared mission outreach.
Ellis is trained for Early Response Team (ERT) work and UM Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Case Management. He completed UMCOR’s UMVIM Team Leader Training for the Northeastern Jurisdiction in March. He can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
