Mr. Bryan Miller, Executive Director, Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence, reports that “special standing” legislation sought by the gun lobby has failed to date to gain passage during the current session of the PA House of Representatives in Harrisburg, which adjourned on October 31 without taking action.

Mr. Miller notes that this legislation, which was enacted at the very end of the 2012-14 legislative session, was overturned on a technical issue and reintroduce in the current session, would provide “special standing” to unrelated individuals and organizations to sue counties or municipalities that enact new local gun violence prevention legislation stronger than existing state law and recover costs for doing so if successful.

He notes that this is unlikely to be the end of the road on this legislation and Heeding God’s Call will continue to watch it closely.
