2017 FAMLP/Local Pastors Retreat: “The Authority of Scripture”

Associate Members, Local Pastors, Student Pastors as well as Certified Lay Ministers are invited to attend from both the Peninsula-Delaware and Eastern PA Conferences. CEUs will be given.

Dates: April 23-25, 2017; Retreat Price includes 2 nights, 5 meals

Former Director of Mentored Ministry And Assistant Professor of Christian Ministry Conrad Weiser High School; B.A. Lebanon Valley College; M. Div. United Theological Seminary; Ph.D. Drew University; Ordained elder (retired) in The E. PA Conference of the United Methodist Church

Rod and his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen, have served pastorates in Elizabethtown (Lancaster County), Green Village (NH), Bethlehem (Northampton County), Ono (Lebanon County), and North Lebanon Township (Lebanon County). They have served extension appointments at Lebanon Valley College (Chaplain and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Religion). Evangelical Theological Seminary (Academic Dean, Assistant Professor of Christian Ministry and Director of United Methodist Studies) and on the cabinets of Bishops Peter Weaver and Marcus Matthews as Superintendent of the Harkness and NE Districts of the E. PA Conference of the UMC. He has taught courses in Biblical Literature and Christian faith at Lebanon Valley College, Evangelical School of Theology and Moravian Theological Seminary.

Rod’s academic interests include Biblical studies in both Old and New Testaments and the organizational and spiritual life of the church. Currently he is reading through the life and ministry of Paul and reviewing Old Testament history. He has written several entries for the Anchor Bible Dictionary. He has served as an associate editor for and served on the Board of Directors of Religious and Theological Abstracts. Rod is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature. He also with the faculty developed the seminary’s field education program which he administered. He was a member of the Association for Theological Field Education and the Evangelical Association of Theological Field Educators Caucus.

Rod was born in Reading (Berks Co.) PA and lived in Wernersville with his parents and brother through his high school years at Conrad Weiser. He met his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen (Omsted) at Lebanon Valley College. They have four daughters (Laurabeth Chape, Angela Gail Dickinson, Sara Helene Jackson, Janell Davis (deceased) and seven grandchildren.
