We would like to announce our plans to have a fossil hunt and visit to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary on October 8, 2016, brought to you by the Prayer Advocacy of the United Methodist Men. We will gather at Drehersville Salem United Methodist Church on 895 just off of route 61 between 9am and 9:30am (49 Church Ln, Drehersville, PA will get you to the church using your GPS). Please register when you arrive, we will be collecting a fee of $12 for each adult and $9 for children under 12 attending to cover the cost of admission to Hawk Mountain and to support the UMM of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
We will begin our day fossil hunting in the town of Deer Lake about 3.5 miles from the church. There are two sites that we can hunt fossils on. The first site is just after reaching the bottom of the mountain and the road splits on the left. The second site is located at the Deer Lake Pub & Restaurant, we have asked for permission to use their parking lot at a search site for fossils.
Please bring a bag lunch and drinks with you for our lunchtime meal. The Deer Lake Pub & Restaurant will also open at 12pm if you wish to buy your lunch rather than bring something.
After we have lunch we will drive to the top of Hawk Mountain to finish our day with a visit to the Hawk Mountain Visitor’s Center and then a hike (walk) to either one or all of the overlooks. We will distribute tickets for the trails at 1pm just outside the visitor center.
For fossil hunting you will need sturdy shoes, safety glasses, work gloves, rock hammer, and a bag to collect the items you find.
Please email David Botzer at email@example.com if you plan on attending either part of the event or the whole event, we would like to get a count of how many people will be coming. You can also email for information and directions if needed.
