JOB SUMMARY:

Create programming and outreach focused on engaging the youth at Cedarville UMC and nurturing the development of their Christian faith and participation in organized youth events. Develop a positive, trusting relationship with youth and creatively engage them with opportunities for fellowship and service in alignment with the mission and values of the church. This is a part time role averaging 8 hours per week .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide ministry to youth that develops their Christian faith through scheduled youth group meetings (normally Sunday evenings during the school year, summer meeting times are more flexible) and youth Sunday School
  • Ensure programs and activities are engaging and fun
  • Recruit parents or other adults to chaperone youth events to ensure the Safe Sanctuaries supervision requirements are met
  • Plan and coordinate fundraising to support youth activities
  • Coordinate and chaperone a youth mission trip or multi-day local service project annually
  • Attend education committee meetings to provide updates and plans for CUMC’s Youth ministry
  • Work collaboratively with the youth to prepare and lead Youth Sunday worship annually
  • Coordinate service opportunities for youth to connect with the outside community
  • Provide information for the church website and social media pages regarding on-going and planned activities and resources to keep youth and their families informed
  • Meet with the Pastor to review programs and plans monthly
  • Attend quarterly staff meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Spiritual maturity and a commitment to the mission of CUMC
  • Enthusiasm for and a proven ability to lead programs for youth
  • Creatively develop meaningful experiences for youth ages 12 – 17
  • Organized and self-motivated
  • Experienced working with children/youth in a related capacity
  • BA or BS degree in a related field (preferred)
  • Ability to satisfy all aspects of the Safe Sanctuaries Policy including but not limited to:
    • Current PA Child Abuse, State Police Criminal background check, and FBI fingerprinting.
    • Must be at least 5 years older than oldest youth group member to fulfill Safe Sanctuaries requirements
