On Ash Wednesday (March 1st) we entered the holy season of Lent. During these weeks leading up to Easter, God calls us to make more room in our lives for him through increased prayer, study, and service. With that in mind, I’d like to recommend two excellent Lenten Study opportunities.
The first begins this Sunday, March 12, during the adult Sunday school hour (9:30-10:30 am) in the library. We will be using Adam Hamilton’s excellent book and video 24 Hours That Changed the World as we examine and reflect upon the last day of Jesus’ life and its meaning for us today. The books for the study they are available in the office for $15.00.The books are helpful but not required. This study will run for 7 weeks and meet each week during the Sunday school hour.
The second opportunity is a study being led by the various pastors in our Western Mainline United Methodist Mission Connexion. We are using a study developed by Hopewell United Methodist Church on the book of Jude in the New Testament. The class will gather next Wednesday evening, March 15, and meet weekly on Wednesday nights until April 12 from 6-7:30 pm at Wayne United Methodist Church. I will be leading the study on March 15th. Our Sanctuary will be set up with Holy Week Stations that follow the Way of the Cross. These will serve as guides for your Holy Week Journey with Jesus. Come at any time during the day to explore our Prayer Stations representing the final week of Jesus’ life. He gave himself over to death so we know God is with us even unto death. We are not alone.
