Wayne UMC builds parsonage and shares VBS in Costa Rica

Wayne UMC Mission Team models “Being Church” in La Bonita, Costa Rica.

Wayne UMC of Wayne, Pennsylvania participated in their first International mission trip through Costa Rica Mission Projects run by directors Wil and Yolanda Bailey. A team of 15 people ranging in age from 11 to over 60 were in Costa Rica from January 28 through February 4th. The enthusiastic team helped with construction on a parsonage for the village pastor, conducted a 2-hour vacation bible school lesson on Jonah and the whale for local children, worshiped and had fellowship with locals and CRMP team members. The term “being church”, as described by Wil Bailey, is going beyond what most teams perceive a short term mission project represents. Instead of only “hands-on” mission consisting of just doing a construction project that serves others, the team experienced “hearts-on” mission that included: worship, prayer, fellowship, service and witness.

Plus, the Americans served the Costa Ricans and the Costa Ricans served the Americans. Several team members are looking forward to the next trip and seeing our new friends again.
