The fraternity/sorority community from the University of Pennsylvania, attending leadership training at Camp Innabah, helped the Conference Disaster Response Team to unload a shipment of flood buckets from Mission Central. The flood buckets will be used for clean up area homes and businesses due to the recent flooding caused by hurricanes and rain storms.
Debra DePrinzio, Eastern Pennsylvania Diasaster Response Coordinator, recently picked up a shipment of flood buckets which arrived for our conference from UMCOR.
She said, “On Saturday, I drove out to Mission Central in Mechanicsburg to pick up flood buckets. They loaded up the 15′ box truck I rented and gave us 336 buckets that were recently shipped from UMCOR’s Sager Brown Depot in Louisiana. We are storing the flood buckets at Camp Innabah with the help of Christy Heflin and her staff.
I know we are using our collection points, and that they are beginning to receive donations of flood buckets, but we did not have enough buckets at these locations to meet the need.
The need for flood buckets is great. Chester County has just asked for 50 and Montgomery County has asked for 60. This doesn’t even include the requests that will come in from our northern counties along the Susquehanna. They are still waiting for the water to recede.”

Please collect the Cleaning (Flood) Buckets and take them to your local collection point as soon as possible. According to Volunteers in Mission Coordinator, Ben Botti, there are eighteen local collection points ready to receive donations of Cleaning Buckets.
Botti also encourages churches to get involved in Early Response Team training, which will be held on September 24:
Early Response Team training: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Cost of the training is $15 per person with lunch and a light breakfast provided courtesy of the host churches. Early Response Teams (ERTs) are the folks who go in right after the emergency phase of a disaster to muck out homes, tarp roofs, remove wet drywall and insulation and cut up downed trees to make homes safe, sanitary and secure. No repairs are performed by these teams. They often need to be totally self-sufficient, taking care of their own meals and transportation into and out of the affected area. Training is mandatory in order to participate on one of these teams and reasonably good health is required. Our goal is to eventually be able to deploy ERTs from each of the six districts in our conference, each with their own, fully equipped trailer.
The training will be held at Ruhl’s UMC, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
