Bethany UMC Macungie Campus

Registration open, agenda set for conference adjourned session

The 2015 Adjourned Session of the Eastern PA Annual Conference, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, will feature prayer, worship and Holy Conferencing, as members hear reports and vote on the 2016 conference budget and resolutions not dealt with at the regular annual session in May. They will also vote again for 2016 General and Jurisdictional conference delegates.

The session will take place from 8:30 to 3:30 PM at Bethany UMC’s Macungie campus, at 3801 Brookside Road, Macungie, PA, near Allentown. Members are asked to please register in advance, before Sept. 30, so electronic voting devices can be prepared for them. Sept. 30 will be the advance registration cut-off date.

Registration onsite for walk-ins–which is discouraged–will be provided at 8 AM. There will be prayer time at 8:30 and opening worship at 9:30, followed by Holy Conferencing to handle unfinished conference business and elections. No lunch will be provided, but snacks and water will be disbursed at registration, and attendees are welcome to bring bag lunches if desired.

The conference will also receive an offering during the session for its participation in the United Methodist Church’s “Imagine No Malaria” ongoing global health awareness and fundraising campaign. Churches are urged to send contributions for the offering and to engage in creative efforts to raise awareness and support in the denomination’s fight against the deadly disease of malaria.

The election of 2016 General and Jurisdictional conference delegates in May was invalidated in July because of operational errors that came to light during a follow-up inspection of the voting results. Information about the need and process for re-voting can be found in two documents on the Adjourned Session webpage:

Also available there are instructions about who is eligible to vote on resolutions and election ballots. Bios and personal statements of nominees for General and Jurisdictional conferences are again accessible on the conference Website.
