Many members at Annual Conference showed visible and vocal enjoyment of the soulful energy, powerful lyrics and diverse, inspiring harmonies of the music. Guest music director Mark Miller (Stewart Warner photo) and his band played for the two days of the conference. And our own local favorites, the Revs. Lydia Muñoz and Irving Cotto, along with Dorlimar Lebron, led our music for praise and worship on Saturday. Miller and his group had to play for a graduation event elsewhere.
Mark Miller led a gifted band featuring Julian Wamble and Cassondra Kellam on vocals, Lydia Muñoz on vocals and percussion, Dorlimar Lebron on vocals and guitar, and David Dawda on bass. Miller himself sang, played piano and organ, and composed or arranged much of what was sung.
If you want to hear more of Miller’s music, order his album “Imagine the People of God” (by Mark Miller and The New Haven Collective) on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify or directly from his website at http://markamillermusic.com/.
Many of the songs from Annual Conference are on this album. Some people have asked about the beautiful song Mark led that is based on the Magnificat. It is “The Canticle of the Turning” and can be found easily on the internet.
Want to hear more? Mark Miller will return to our conference for a second “Leading from the Heart” worship conference Saturday, Sept. 6 at Paoli UMC. This time there will be four workshops that can help you elevate your church’s worship experience. There is room for only 200 participants at this Central District event; so sign up now!
