Bishop Johnson requests offering for Pakistan

UMCOR UPDATES
NEW WOES AS FLOOD WATERS RECEDE IN PAKISTAN: As floodwaters recede in Pakistan, challenges presented by disease, economic loss, and the return to devastated homes, farms, and livelihoods emerge on an unprecedented scale. While aid trickles in, observers say that the worst is yet to come. In Pakistan, the UM Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is supporting the relief efforts of partners Church World Service, GlobalMedic, Muslim Aid, and, through the ACT (Action by Churches Together) Alliance, Norwegian Church Aid and the Church of Pakistan. Give to the Pakistan Emergency by designating a donation for Pakistan Floods Advance #982450 <http://secure.gbgm-umc.org/donations/umcor/donate.cfm?code=982450&id=3019041.
FROM BISHOP PEGGY JOHNSON - Offering for Pakistan
The world has experienced another major natural disaster. This time there are devastating floods in Pakistan. Many are in risk of contracting water-borne diseases and the number of people affected by this tragedy has risen to 20 million. The United Methodist Committee on Relief has already sent $75,000 but so much more is needed. 100% of every dollar given goes directly to the need and the overhead of our relief agency is covered by our apportionment dollars. Please take an offering for our sisters and brothers in Pakistan. Send donations to:The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference UMC, P.O. Box 820, Valley Forge, PA 19482-0820, memo: Pakistan - Advance #3982450, and it will be forwarded to UMCOR on your behalf.
For more information on the United Methodist Committee on Relief and its response to the Pakistan floods, go to: www.umcor.org.
RESOURCES FOR YOUR CHURCH FROM UMCOR:
Heavy monsoon rains have caused severe damage throughout the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh provinces of Pakistan, affecting about 14 million people. UMCOR is responding to the Pakistan floods by providing clean drinking water, food, temporary shelter, and medical aid to tens of thousands of people in collaboration with Church of Pakistan, Church World Service, and GlobalMedic.

8/17/10: As we respond through gifts to UMCOR, we also pray for the communities impacted by flooding. The refrain to "Probhoo Lay lay mujhay / O Lord Jesus, enfold me" can be used within prayer or sung as a choral response.
