Local Seminaries Receive Official Reinstatement
Palmer Theological Seminary is reinstated to approved UM list
"Palmer Theological Seminary has learned that the University Senate of the United Methodist Church has reinstated Palmer to its list of approved non-United Methodist schools of theology,” said Christopher Hall, Chancellor of Eastern University and Dean, Palmer Theological Seminary. “Palmer will maintain regular contact with the University Senate to ensure that we are doing all we can to prepare students for effective and excellent ministry within the United Methodist context."

Evangelical Theological Seminary Reestablishes Listing with The United Methodist Church
As a result of their January 25th appeal, Evangelical Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that they have been officially reinstated by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church to the list of approved non-Methodist schools of theology. This means that United Methodist clergy candidates can enroll at Evangelical for their theological education.
The reinstatement is currently effective until July 1, 2012; however, over the coming year, there will be a University Senate review to consider an extension of listing beyond that time. According to Evangelical’s President, Dr. Michael Sigman, there have already been positive conversations pertaining to the extension of the school’s approval status. “The Senate is working with us to determine how long our listing will be extended. I’m very pleased by their approval of our appeal, and I’m hopeful that our further work will result in a much longer relationship.”
The United Methodist Church had removed Evangelical’s approved status on their list of approved seminaries in June 2010. The turnaround in their decision is a positive reflection on the excellence of Evangelical’s theological program.
