A testimonial on the 2016 Youth Rally

The opportunity to attend the Pen-Del Youth Rally was the most amazing experience of my life. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was mind-blowing.

Reggie Dabbs was the main speaker and words cannot explain how much he opened my eyes to faith. His words were impeccable. Looking around, I could see he had an impact on everyone in the room. I saw tears among children, teens, parents and youth leaders—not tears of sadness but of healing and restored belief.

Everyone there was so welcoming. The sense of community was strong, and although it was my first time at this event, I felt like I belonged.

I mainly attended this event to help out David Piltz, Campus Minister at Drexel University’s Open Door Campus Ministry, where I am a student leader. He had two sessions where he talked about how words can impact someone positively or negatively. He asked me to give a testimony about a personal struggle in my life and how I overcame it.

Honestly, I was afraid because I have never shared my personal struggles with anyone, not even my family. Now I was going to do it on stage in front of strangers, which really freaked me out. However, I reminded myself that God is with me, and then I did it. The aftermath was the most beautiful part to me. People were interested in my story; they would come up to me and tell me how inspired they were from my story.

The fact that my story reached not only the kids but adults as well was unbelievable. I was tearing up as people told me their stories, and I realized how thankful I was for this opportunity. Not only was I able to inspire others, but they also made me realize that I shouldn’t be ashamed of my struggles.

My faith in God has never been stronger, and this to me is proof that God is in all of us. He was with me while I told my story, and he was with the many others who told me how inspired they were from my story. I’ve never felt so inspired in my life before. This weekend was truly amazing. I gained so much and lost nothing.
